Since the inception of the Alternative to College Fair (ALT Fair) in 2014, we have successfully reached hundreds of families nationwide through our innovative approach to exploring educational alternatives beyond traditional college fairs. Taking place each fall and spring, these events serve as a platform for students and families to discover a diverse array of opportunities that may not be readily available through conventional avenues. The ALT Fair was born from a simple yet powerful idea: many students in the Bay Area were missing out on valuable connections with programs that extend beyond the typical college experience. As discussions around education evolve, it became evident that there are numerous paths available to young people, yet many are left unaware of them. The absence of exposure to alternatives—like vocational training, apprenticeships, or unique travel programs—creates a gap that needs to be filled. Recognizing this need for change, we set out to create an inclusive environment that showcases various educational opportunities. Our mission is to empower students and families by facilitating connections with organizations and programs that offer vital experiences and skills necessary for a successful future. Through our twice a year fairs, and personalized interactions, the ALT Fair not only informs but inspires participants to think outside the box when it comes to post-secondary options. By continuing to address this need, the ALT Fair stands as a beacon of possibility for students across the nation, inviting them to explore all the paths available to them and encouraging an informed decision-making process that aligns with their individual aspirations and goals.
